Album Preview: Tyler, the Creator - Goblin

Ok, so after scaring the shit out of everyone who listens to BBC 1 during the day with his debut track on XL, 'Yonkers', Tyler's (second) album 'Goblin' will be released on XL on May 10th. This album is exciting, not only because it will be pushing OFWGKTA to even higher heights of fame, but it will be the first major breakthrough in so called 'horror-core' since Slim Shady's early releases. Whatever genre you want to class it, Tyler and OFWGKTA make damn fine hip hop. All they have to do now is Free Earl. swag. 8/10

Goblin is out on 10th May.
The single 'Yonkers' is out now.

New(ish) Artist: Harmonimix (James Blake)

Harmonimix is James Blake. Before he discovered that he could sing, he was making these incredible R&B remixes. He has done a lot from Destiny's Child to Trim, and they are really, really good. His track 'Bills Bills Bills' stands out the most with its chopped and detuned vocals. You can hear Blakes souls background coming through with the chords he uses, which leads on into the album. Expect claps and organs everywhere.

New Artist: Tall Ships

Tall Ships are a math-rock band from Brighton. They cross in between Foals (without the caves of reverb) and a more up tempo Radiohead. Their track 'Plate Tectonics' is particularly nice, creating a feeling of summer with the clean guitar riff and the changes in rhythm, finishing in a lovely crescendo. Their other track, 'Chemistry', combines the usual elements of math-rock, repeated guitar riffs and complicated drums however it is very easy listening. Very nice stuff indeed.

Jai Paul - BTSTU.

Jai Paul has been around for a couple of years now. He is a 22 year old producer/singer from Rayners Lane.  He signed to XL records last year and finally his first single BTSTU (which infuses a heavy wonky bass line with D'Angelo vocals and J Dilla drums) has been released. No one knows much about him, last year we were told that he was releasing an EP called 'Bait Ones', but that never arrived. His myspace also refers to something called 'Air Force London'? Its this secrecy that makes Jai Paul so exciting. Expect big things.
